The
Band
The band was founded in 1916 the original name being Ifton Silver Band and
based in St Martins. The present name is the band's fifth, reflecting it
original name together with location of its current home, Oswestry
The current band consists of musicians of different ages with varying
abilities. A few of the players are really experienced players who were with
Ifton Band when they were entering competitions in 1999.
The band has a Learner Band . We recruit Year 6+ children from local school.
We realise that these youngsters are the life blood of a brass band. The
learner band is not restricted to the children, anyone that would like to
learn to play a brass instrument is welcome to attend.
Our band operates an open door policy for membership, there is no selection
process, we just seek enthusiasm and some commitment to attend rehearsals
and performances.
The band is totally self financing by performances that they undertake,
although for 2003 we have been fortunate to have received sponsorship from
Richard Burbidge Limited.
The band organises regular concerts at the Attfield Theatre, Oswestry. We
participate in local musical events. (Oswestry Music in the Park and
Oswestry Youth Music Festival) Civic Services at Oswestry Parish Church,
Carnivals, Fetes and Pageants
We are keen to take on more concerts and events in the Ceiriog Valley and
North Shropshire areas and are willing to attend charity concerts or outdoor
events for a minimal fee. (To cover the day's expenses plus a contribution
towards the running costs of the band
Our Band's Aim
The aim of our band is to promote music, in our case brass band music. We do
this by providing, instruments, tuition and performance experience to anyone
that is prepared to play in our band. If a student is studying music at
school, this involvement helps in their course giving them playing
experience along side other musicians in the band plus performance
experience. |
